Gender-labour implications for food crop production: evidence from farm households in Kaduna State of Nigeria. – S. A. Rahman, N. D. Marcus and J. I. Usman

November 28, 2020Journals Vol2. No1

ABSTRACT

Despite the important roles that women play in farm and household production, they have not been given due recognition in agricultural sector. A study was conducted in Kaduna State with 120 farm households to examine the extent of involvement of both men and women in the production of food crops. It was observed that men in northern Kaduna carried the major responsibility for farm work, while in southern Kaduna men and women play equally important roles in terms of labour contribution to farm production. In order to give women opportunity to participate effectively in agriculture, disparity between them and men has to be removed by reviewing land right policies for gender equity and women‟s land rights.
