A collaborative web-based learning forum – I. E. Eteng and J. C. Okoro
This paper illustrates the use of web forums in enhancing collaborative learning. Collaborative learning is a learning method based on the premise that knowledge can be created within a population where members actively interact by sharing experiences and taking on asymmetric roles. This research work focused on how an online forum can be used in a learning environment as a vehicle for programming enthusiasts to share knowledge and experiences. Various design tools: use case and activity diagrams were used in the system design. An application was developed which included a database structure that facilitates a multi-threaded discussion environment in which users of the system can engage actively in multiple discussions. The resulting system produced in this research allows students in the field of programming to share knowledge and experiences as both messages and replies to messages posted on the online forum.
