Cell phone contact menu design: contact enumeration and name text field simplification. – B. Eyo, E. Williams, and S. Akpan
Mobile cell phone menu and sub menu designs are central to the utility derived by users when interacting with the phone; a bad design would often result in poor usability and vice versa. In this paper, I have chosen to study and understand how the user interacts with a cell phone contact menu and sub menus from saving of contacts on the cell phone to accessing of saved contacts. Eleven users participated in the exercise and were made to undergo the tasks of saving a contact’s name and number on a contact menu on one hand and accessing saved name-phone number pair from the contact menu using a Nokia 2680s cell phone. The result of this study led to a cell phone contact menu design proposal for the enumeration of saved contacts and elimination of last name text field in the new contact sub menu.
